We’ve had a lot of ideas on our platform lately around making bedtime more fun, relaxing, and engaging. As the year comes to a close, our projects have slowed down a bit, but we didn’t want to keep you waiting and decided to prototype the most popular idea before leaving the office for a much-needed break.
For this prototyping session, one of our colleagues went above and beyond. She headed home and redecorated her children’s bedroom. We think it turned out pretty awesome!
To be able to quickly test the under-bed lighting idea she put two party lights she had at home and placed them under the bed. This quick test gave us a really great idea of what the final product could be and its benefits.
Here is some of what we learned:
- The coloured lights really changed the atmosphere in the room, but party lights are maybe a bit too bright…
- Even with the bright light though, the bed area was much darker meaning that it should be easy enough to fall asleep with the lights on. It also came with some unexpected benefits.
- The lights made it easier to check on the kids at night without tripping over toys lying on the floor and without turning on a bigger light.
- It also makes it easier to see items that have gotten lost under the bed
. Wemight think this could be a success for a number of different age groups, maybe even a bit older then what we originally thought.
What we still have to think about is how to make the lighting thin enough to still allow for under-bed storage and beds with integrated drawers. But all in all, we’re one step closer to scaring off monsters for good!
