Ingvar Kamprad was always curious about people and how IKEA could help everyone to create beautiful, functional homes on a small budget. He would visit stores, often anonymously, and talk to people about their visit and the products, and what they thought was missing or could be better.
“I see my task as serving the majority of people. The question is, how do you find out what they want, how best to serve them? My answer is to stay close to ordinary people because at heart I am one of them.”Ingvar Kamprad
Staying close to people is at the core of our work, nowhere more than at IKEA of Sweden, in Älmhult, where the IKEA range is developed and made available to customers all over the world. It’s also here that we explore the future to create ideas and innovations for a better everyday life at home for the many people.
Over the years, we’ve built on Ingvar’s good example, using different methods to understand people’s needs. Home visits, research, product reviews, and now co-creation, bringing people and product design development together in the closest, most productive way.
If you want to join us, take a look at the current co-creation activities, and thank you for sharing a little bit of your life at home with us. In return, we will share updates and insights and invite you to start by watching this short film to take a tour around the place where most of us work, IKEA of Sweden.
